According to Lochte, achieving growth required significant personal work, including rehab, therapy, and spiritual recommitment.
That meant doing the work — going to rehab, rededicating my life to Christ, going to therapy and making changes that put my children first.
His efforts have resulted in shared custody, with Lochte now having his kids 50% of the time.

On Wednesday, January 14, Lochte announced his new living situation via Instagram with two photos showing him and Gillihan posing on the floor of their new residence.
“Home sweet home,” he captioned the images, where both wore matching sweatsuit sets.
Gillihan brings three children of her own into this new arrangement, creating what Lochte describes as a family of six kids total.

Kayla filed for divorce last March and publicly announced the split on June 4 through Instagram, describing it as “one of the most painful, revealing, and challenging seasons” of her life.
Court documents obtained by PEOPLE in September revealed serious allegations from Kayla as part of her effort to obtain full custody of their three children.
Allegations and Responses
In her court filing, Kayla alleged that Ryan had used drugs in front of their young children prior to their divorce.
She wrote that “shared parental responsibility would be detrimental” because Ryan “has a history of substance abuse” and was allegedly “still abusing illegal controlled substances.”
Ryan responded to these allegations with a statement to PEOPLE, acknowledging past drug use while firmly denying that it occurred around his children.
I am not denying that I used drugs in my home, but I adamantly deny ever using drugs in front of or around my children, and I have never driven them while intoxicated.
He explained that he would sometimes remain in his truck to avoid what he described as an “overwhelming and very toxic” home environment.
At times, I would rest in my truck instead of going inside — not because I was impaired, but because the home environment had become overwhelming and very toxic and I needed a moment to collect myself before walking in.
Their divorce proceedings remain ongoing with no resolution in sight.
Prioritizing Children Through Change
Despite the legal complexities, Lochte maintains that his children remain his primary focus.
His journey through rehab and therapy appears to have been motivated by securing custody time and proving himself as a capable parent.
Now, with 50% custody achieved and a new living arrangement established, Lochte is painting a picture of redemption and renewal.
