Milo Ventimiglia Lost His Home to Wildfire While Wife Was 38 Weeks Pregnant. Two Weeks Later, Baby Arrived and Now There’s Another Surprise

Milo Ventimiglia and his wife Jarah Mariano are expanding their family just over a year after welcoming their first child amid unimaginable circumstances.

The couple revealed they’re expecting baby number two in a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating their daughter’s first birthday.

The announcement comes as the family continues rebuilding their lives after losing their home in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires.

For a family that’s already weathered an extraordinary storm, this news represents hope and resilience in equal measure.

Birthday Celebration Doubles as Pregnancy Reveal

Mariano, 42, shared the pregnancy news while honoring daughter Ke’ala Coral’s first birthday over the weekend. In a sun-soaked Instagram post confirmed by People, the model showcased her growing bump while cradling her toddler against her chest.

Wearing a brown bikini and floppy hat, Mariano radiated maternal joy despite the challenging year her family has endured.

Happy 1 year baby girl. When you came into my life I had 2 distinct thoughts, one immediately after the other – I would die for you in a heartbeat, but now I also have to live as long as I possibly can to be around to make sure you’re safe.

The emotional caption continued with Mariano describing the profound transformation motherhood brought to her life.

This is the most unique love I’ve ever experienced, just as unique of a soul you are. In a world with so much fear and hatred, I know that you will bring your radiating light everywhere you go to make it a better and brighter place for those around you.

From Devastation to New Beginnings

The pregnancy announcement carries extra weight considering what Ventimiglia, 48, and Mariano experienced just weeks before their daughter’s birth. On January 7th, while 38 weeks pregnant, Mariano evacuated from the Palisades Fire that would ultimately destroy everything they owned.

Their family lost not one, but two properties: the home they were living in and another under construction where they planned to raise their growing family.

Jan 7th my family & I evacuated from the Palisades Fire. We lost our home that we were living in & everything we own, as well as our home under construction that we were about to move into.

Mariano revealed she’d already evacuated during the Franklin Fire weeks earlier, creating an unintentional rehearsal for the tragedy to come.

I take it as a gift that I was able to essentially do a practice run for what was inevitably to come.

Welcoming Ke’ala Amid Crisis

Despite losing everything, Mariano gave birth to Ke’ala Coral Ventimiglia on January 23rd, 2025—just 16 days after fleeing their burning home. The model announced the arrival on Instagram with a photo of their newborn’s tiny feet alongside their dog’s paw.

Houseless, never homeless Welcome back Ke’ala Coral Ventimiglia 1.23.25.

Her caption reflected remarkable gratitude despite unthinkable circumstances.

My family & I are together, happy, healthy & safe, which is truly all that matters. We are deeply grateful to all of the heroes who help battle fires, as well as care for everyone affected by the aftermath for years to come.

Watching Their Home Burn Through Security Cameras

Ventimiglia shared the heartbreaking reality of watching their Malibu home burn down through security camera footage. Speaking with CBS News days after safely evacuating with Mariano and their dog, The This Is Us star described processing the loss in real-time.

I think there’s a shock moment where you go, this is real and this is happening. Then, at some point, you just turn it off. What good is it to continue watching?

Eventually, they had to make peace with what they were witnessing remotely.

We kind of accepted the loss.

Returning to Ashes and Memories

When Ventimiglia returned to where his home once stood, cameras captured him becoming visibly emotional. Everything prepared for their baby’s arrival—the crib, nursery items, all carefully selected possessions—had vanished.

Standing amid the ruins felt “heavy,” he told Extra.

You start thinking about all the memories in different parts of the house and what not. And then you see your neighbors’ houses and everything kind of around and your heart just breaks.

Life Imitating Art in Cruel Ways

The tragedy carried an eerie parallel to Ventimiglia’s most famous role. His character Jack Pearson on NBC’s This Is Us died after saving his family from a house fire, succumbing to cardiac arrest caused by smoke inhalation.

In Jack’s final appearance, viewers watched him face devastating flames—a fictional scenario that became Ventimiglia’s reality years later.

It’s not lost on me. Life imitating art.

Building Forward Together

Ventimiglia and Mariano married in 2023 and announced their first pregnancy in September 2024. At that time, Mariano shared a photo of herself cradling her bump while sitting on a paddle board in Hawaii, wearing a bikini and purple orchid lei.

Baby on board!

Now, with baby number two on the way and Ke’ala celebrating her first birthday, the couple demonstrates extraordinary resilience. They’ve transformed catastrophic loss into renewed purpose, proving that family remains their foundation regardless of physical structures around them.

Their story reminds us that home isn’t defined by walls and roofs—it’s built through love, perseverance, and choosing hope even when circumstances seem impossible. As Mariano beautifully stated in her daughter’s birthday tribute, Ke’ala brings “radiating light everywhere” she goes.

Soon, there will be another little light joining their family.
