Broadway is about to get a whole lot more dramatic—and hilariously absurd.
The cult sensation Titaníque, a Céline Dion jukebox musical parody that reimagines the iconic 1997 film, is sailing into the St. James Theatre this spring with an eye-popping cast of Broadway veterans.
Among the newly announced stars joining the ship? Emmy winner Jim Parsons, Grammy-nominated powerhouse Deborah Cox, and social media sensation Frankie Grande.
The show opens April 12 following previews beginning March 26, and if its Off-Broadway run is any indication, tickets are going to sink faster than the actual Titanic.
Star-Studded Cast Boards the Broadway Bow
Show co-creator Marla Mindelle will reprise her role as Céline Dion herself, the show’s narrator and self-appointed Titanic historian. Mindelle originated the role Off-Broadway, where her larger-than-life performance became the stuff of theatrical legend.
Joining her on deck is Jim Parsons, fresh off his critically acclaimed turn in Mother Play, who will play Ruth Dewitt Bukater—Rose’s overbearing mother from the film. Parsons’ casting marks a delightful departure from his usual dramatic fare, promising comedic fireworks.
Deborah Cox, known for her recent role in The Wiz revival, steps into the shoes of the Unsinkable Molly Brown. Cox brings vocal prowess and theatrical charisma to a character originally portrayed with warmth and grit by Kathy Bates in James Cameron’s film.
Frankie Grande, who previously appeared in Rock of Ages and has built a massive social media following, returns to reprise his Off-Broadway role as Victor Garber. Yes, that’s right—Grande plays the actor who played the ship’s builder in the movie. Meta? Absolutely.
Rounding out the announced cast is Constantine Rousouli, another co-creator of the show, who returns as Jack Dawson. Rousouli’s involvement since the show’s inception in 2017 has been instrumental in shaping Titaníque into the phenomenon it is today.
From Cult Favorite to Broadway Sensation
Titaníque began as a one-night-only concert event in Los Angeles back in 2017. What started as a cheeky experiment quickly gained momentum, moving to New York’s Green Room 42 in 2018 before becoming a fully staged Off-Broadway production in 2022.
Originally planned as a limited engagement, audience demand turned it into a three-year juggernaut at the Daryl Roth Theatre. The show’s infectious energy, outrageous premise, and Dion’s iconic catalog created a perfect storm of theatrical joy.
The concept? Céline Dion leads a museum tour where she reveals the “true story” of what happened aboard the Titanic between Jack and Rose. Naturally, her greatest hits underscore the action, from “My Heart Will Go On” to “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.”
International Voyage Proves Global Appeal
Since its New York premiere, Titaníque has spawned productions across the globe. Audiences in Australia, Canada, London’s West End, Chicago, and Paris have all embraced the show’s unique blend of camp, nostalgia, and genuine theatrical craft.
This international success isn’t just about novelty. The show taps into universal love for the film while simultaneously poking fun at its melodrama and cultural impact.
It’s reverent and irreverent in equal measure—a delicate balance that co-creators Mindelle, Tye Blue, and Rousouli have perfected over years of development.
Creative Team Returns for Broadway
Most of the original Off-Broadway creative team is reuniting for the Broadway production, ensuring continuity of vision. Director Tye Blue, who co-wrote the book, returns alongside choreographer Ellenore Scott.
Nicholas James Connell again serves as music supervisor, arranger, and orchestrator—a crucial role given the show’s reimagining of Dion’s catalog. His arrangements transform familiar pop anthems into theatrical showstoppers.
Scenic designers Gabriel Hainer Evansohn and Grace Laubacher of Iron Bloom Creative Production return, as do costume designer Alejo Vietti, lighting designer Paige Seber, and sound designer Lawrence Schober.
New to the team for Broadway is hair and wig designer Charles G. LaPointe, whose work will undoubtedly enhance the show’s already spectacular visual comedy.
Ticket Information and Limited Run
Ticket pre-sales launch January 8 for those who sign up at TitaniqueMusical.com. General ticket sales begin January 12.
The Broadway run is currently scheduled as limited, continuing through July 12. Given the show’s history of extending due to popular demand, that end date may prove flexible.
Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks, with Rachel Hoffman of The Telsey Office handling casting duties. ShowTown Theatricals serves as general managers, with original producer Eva Price returning.
Why This Show Resonates
Titaníque works because it understands its source material intimately. The 1997 film Titanic is simultaneously a masterpiece and ripe for parody—epic in scope, earnest in emotion, and embedded in pop culture consciousness.
By filtering the story through Céline Dion’s perspective and music, the show creates something genuinely original. It’s not merely a spoof but a love letter wrapped in comedy.
The casting of heavy-hitters like Parsons and Cox signals confidence in the material’s theatrical legitimacy. These aren’t stunt castings—they’re accomplished performers bringing star power to a show that’s earned its Broadway berth through grassroots enthusiasm.
What to Expect Opening Night
April 12 promises to be one of Broadway’s most anticipated opening nights of the spring season. The St. James Theatre, home to legendary productions throughout Broadway history, will host what may become one of the season’s biggest sleeper hits.
Expect outrageous costumes, powerhouse vocals, and comedy that ranges from subtle theatrical in-jokes to broad physical humor. The show’s Off-Broadway reputation suggests audiences should prepare for an interactive experience that breaks the fourth wall with gleeful abandon.
For theater lovers who appreciate shows that don’t take themselves too seriously while still delivering genuine entertainment, Titaníque represents everything Broadway can be when it embraces joy, camp, and celebration of pop culture.
The voyage from Los Angeles concert to Broadway mainstage has taken seven years. Now, with this powerhouse cast and proven creative team, Titaníque is ready to conquer theater’s biggest stage—no iceberg in sight.
